Ho Chi Minh City will not have its usual National Day fireworks display on September 2, but will host a number of other events, including a balloon display.
Colorful hot air balloons will be displayed over the Saigon River at 8 am on September 2.

A series of adventurous sporting events such as paragliding will then be held along the banks of the river and Bach Dang Pier in the city center.

On the same day, from 20:00 to 22:30, a special art performance will take place on Nguyen Hue Walking Street.

"Fireworks will be reserved for other occasions, and now the city has to take care of people's lives," Wo Chong Nam, deputy head of the municipal department of culture and sports, told a press conference.

Vietnam will enjoy a four-day break from September 1st to 4th during this year's National Day celebrations.

There were also no fireworks for national holidays in 2021 and New Year 2022 as Vietnam's southern metropolis focused resources on fighting Covid-19.

This year, on the night of April 30, the city staged fireworks at only two sites to celebrate Reunification Day.
